To ensure a full understanding of these songs, the specific teaching strategy places emphasis on music listening using ten analytical parameters: melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, timbre, form, dynamics and articulations, instrumentation, vocal/instrumental sounds, and performance practices.
African American Music for Everyone endeavors to reveal the importance of this music within a cultural context, its contribution within the scope of American music, its vitality within world cultures, and the significance of this music and its contributors to education in music.
A CD is enclosed with music sung and played by professional musicians containing audio examples that demonstrate not only usages within an African American performance context, but of general musical terminology.
