Summary

After inspiring two movies, a Broadway musical, and a successful sequel, author Patrick Dennis' singular character has become one of the world's most outrageous icons. In the wake of an acclaimed biography of the eccentric Dennis (Uncle Mame, October 2000) and as retro-chic rages on, this edition, complete with a new introduction by Paul Rudnick, is now available.

Even more risque than the envelope-pushing film starring Rosalind Russell, this story of an orphaned ten-year-old boy sent to live with his glamorous aunt is as resonating today as it was in the 50's. When Patrick, our young orphan, is sent to an all-nude elementary school in bohemian Greenwich Village, and plays nursemaid to the perpetually soused characters who pass out in his aunt's house, he receives the kind of education most kids would die for. And 'supervising' him the whole time is Auntie Mame herself, in all her captivating and flamboyant glory.

Camp culture abounds these days, from the sloshed starring duo of Absolutely Fabulous to the entire cast of Will and Grace - Auntie Mame is the story of the original 'queen of quirk'.

Author Bio

Dennis, Patrick :

Edward Everett Tanner III, a.k.a. Patrick Dennis, was one of the most widely read authors of the 1950's and '60's. The majority of his sixteen novels, including the hit Little Me, were national bestsellers. A celebrity in bohemian New York culture, he led a double life as a bisexual man and a conventional husband and father. Faced with financial ruin in the 1970's, he spent the last chapter of his life as a butler.
