Artworks for Elementary Teachers serves elementary education majors with little or no prior background in art.
It provides introductory experiences both in knowing how to create art and how to respond to it. The four areas
of study in discipline-based art education—aesthetics, art production, art criticism and art history—are covered
thoroughly and have been thoroughly updated to include the latest in state and national standards.
New to This Edition:
- Lesson Plans: A supplemental lesson plan packet, Art Starts, is available free with every copy of the
text. These plans offer programs and activities for the elementary classroom and are a valuable resource for future
teachers.
- Computers in the Classroom: Chapter Six focuses on interactive technology in the elementary classroom and includes
Web and other resource recommendations. Chapter Six also includes complete coverage of national and state Comprehensive
Arts Standards, as well as DBAE.
- Up-to-date: Current research and current trends in art (including Post-Modernism) are reflected throughout.
Further, the art program reflects a more diverse, multicultural body of artists.
- Student Work Color Gallery: In addition to the professional color gallery, the ninth edition includes a separate
color gallery spotlighting elementary school student work.
- Interactive Extensions: At the end of each chapter these exercises offer students the opportunity to critically
and reflectively interact with the art about which they are learning.
- Two-Color: The text is now two-color throughout and has been completely redesigned.
- Glossary: Incorporating pronunciations, definitions, and index entries, this new appendix provides a much needed
resource for students.
Features
- This is the only text written specifically for non-art majors who will be required to provide K-6 elementary
art experiences. It helps students become knowledgeable about art so that they can in turn create meaningful lesson
plans.
