Today's preaching needs redemptive aims and biblical focus.
Principles of homiletic theory, expository preaching, and biblical theology join to make Christ-centeredness central
in this homiletics introduction. Notes John Sanderson, "Many times departments of theology and practical theology
do not speak with each other. Bryan Chapell avoids that danger by forcing us to think of the two disciplines as
blended together."
Chapell's approach to preaching stresses expository preaching because he believes Bible exposition alone offers
authority and redemptive power. He teaches preparation, organization, and delivery basics and offers help for special
preaching situations. The text is sprinkled with charts and learning aids. Chapters begin with learning goals and
a contents schematic and end with discussion questions and exercises.
The distinctive quality, though, lies in the author's concept of "a fallen condition focus," which he
believes preachers must have as they approach their task. This focus applies Bible truths to the living needs of
fallen humans in a hurting world.
