Author Bio

Bangs, Andy Jr. :

Andy Bangs, Jr. began working with small-business owners when he completed college and graduate school, and became a commercial loan officer for the Bank of America. This gave me invaluable experience, he says. I've been on both sides of the lending desk. Before founding Upstart Publishing Company, Inc. in 1977, he managed the Exeter Business Information Center, a pilot program sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. He also taught courses in logic and philosophy of science at the University of New Hampshire. I began Upstart to provide clear, accessible management tools to small business owners and the people who work with small business owners, Bangs explains. As developer of Upstart's product lines, he wrote the Business Planning Guide (more than 500,000 copies sold, now in its eighth edition), the Market Planning Guide (in its fifth edition), the Startup Guide (in its third edition), the Cash Flow Control Guide , the Restaurant Planning Guide (with Peter Rainsford) and six other small business management books. In 1991 Bangs sold Upstart to Dearborn Financial Publishing in Chicago so he could concentrate on writing and working with educators and small business owners. Among his recent books are Launching Your Home Based Business, a management guide for home-based business owners published by Dearborn in 1997, and Work at Home Wisdom, published in 1998, both with Andi Axman. Bangs lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with his wife Lacey and their elderly black Labrador Thud.
