Author Bio

Ostebee, Arnold : Saint Olaf College

Arnold Ostebee is a Professor of Mathematics at St. Olaf College. He received his Ph.D. in mathematical physics from SUNY, Stony Brook in 1977, and has taught at St. Olaf since 1980. He chaired the math department for two years and is now Associate Dean for Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Over the last several years, Arnold Ostebee has organized and conducted many workshops (some with Paul Zorn) in various areas of undergraduate mathematics: pedagogical uses of symbolic computation, calculus reform, computing in differential equation courses, etc. He has served on the MAA/CUPM Subcommittee on Symbolic Computation Systems and is a member of the MAA committee on Electric Services. Ostebee is an Associate Editor of the American Mathematical Monthly and an Executive Editor of the newsletter published by the Consortium for Differential Equations Experiments.


Zorn, Paul : Saint Olaf College

Paul Zorn is a Professor of Mathematics at St. Olaf College. He received his Ph.D. in several complex variables from the University of Washington in 1981, and has taught at St. Olaf since then. Paul Zorn has spoken and written extensively on uses of technology in undergraduate education. His expository article on Louis de Branges' proof of the Bieberbach conjecture, published in Mathematics Magazine, won the 1987 Allendoerfer Prize. Zorn is now editor of Mathematics Magazine.
