Summary: The second edition of Canada: A Nation of Regions is an accessible, comprehensive survey of Canadian regional geography. Its approach is based on the core-periphery model but makes no assumptions as to students' level of geographic understanding. Geographic terms and concepts are explained anddefined, as are human and physical processes. The thoroughly updated second edition contains new material exploring current topics such as climate change, the recent global financial crisis begi
nning in 2008, and Arctic sovereignty; up-to-date data in all tables and figures; and expanded pedagogy. There are three parts to Canada: A Nation of Regions. Part I has four chapters covering topics and issues that pertain to Canada as a whole, such as the country's physical characteristics and its place within the world economy. Part II divides Canada into seven regions, based largely on provincialand territorial boundaries, which provides a presentation of the stories and issues faced throughout Canada that need to be discussed in the context of their own regional definition. Part III returns to examining Canada from a national perspective with a summary of how this country was shaped, howregions were marginalized, how we have struggled to achieve Canadian unity, and focuses on the many issues that can be viewed from a geographic perspective. This text features a new regional geography approach that incorporates the research and findings from other disciplines, thus recognizing theoverlap between geography and anthropology, archaeology, history, economics, sociology, and political studies and reinforces the need for an interdisciplinary approach.
