"Engineering Electromagnetics" is a "classic" in Electrical Engineering textbook publishing. First published in 1958 it quickly became a standard and has been a best-selling book for over 4 decades. A new co-author from Georgia Tech has come aboard for the sixth edition to help update the book. Designed for introductory courses in electromagnetics or electromagnetic field theory at the junior-level and offered in departments of electrical engineering, the text is a widely respected, updated version that stresses fundamentals and problem solving and discusses the material in an understandable, readable way. As in the previous editions, the book retains the scope and emphasis that have made the book very successful while updating all the problems.

New to This Edition

  • Chapters 11, 12 and 13 have gone through an extensive rewrite, with out-dated material being deleted and new material being added. New topics include: wave polarization, development of the uniform plane wave, treatment of wave propagation in various media, reflection of waves at single and multiple interfaces, and at oblique incidence angles, and transients on transmission lines.
  • A new Chapter 14 provides an introduction to waveguides and antennas, in which the underlying physical concepts are emphasized. While the waveguide sections are all new, the antenna treatment is the same as previous editions. Chapter 14 is intended as an "advanced topics" chapter, in which the development of waveguide and antenna concepts occurs through the application of the methods learned in earlier chapters.
  • The book has been written with the goal of making it as easy as possible for the student to learn independently. This has been done by applying a carefully graduated scale of difficulty within each chapter and among the chapters themselves, by providing numerical examples, a large number of drill problems with answers, as well as end-of-chapter problems. All of the problems have been updated since the last edition.
  • The material is more than adequate for a one-semester course. Professors can omit portions of some of the chapters depending on the instructional level. Also, the more difficult material has been placed near the ends of chapters or at the end of the study of some definite phase of the subject to help bring along varying levels of students.
  • The book has an expanded Web site to include a downloadable version of the solutions manual, Appendix E and downloadable JPEG files of the figures.
  • The e-text contains PDF files of all the book chapters, as well as the Student Solutions Manual.
