Lieberman, Lauren J. : State University of New York College at Brockport
Lauren J. Lieberman is a faculty member in the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the State University of New York at Brockport. She earned a PhD in 1995 in human performance with a minor in movement studies and disabilities from Oregon State University where she also taught classes in adapted physical education and coordinated a play-based program for infants and toddlers.
From 1989 to 1993 Lieberman was an instructor in adapted physical education and aquatics and taught in the deaf-blind program at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts. In addition, she coached students with multiple sensory impairments and was a consultant for the Perkins School's Severely Impaired Program.
Since 1987 Lieberman, who holds a teaching certificate in health and physical education for grades K-12, also has coordinated many programs in physical education and recreation for individuals with sensory impairments. She frequently gives presentations and workshops, and she is a consultant for a project to establish national standards for adapted physical education specialists.

''This is a very welcome and helpful addition to the literature on how to teach students with sensory impairments. It offers specific games and activities that the students can play with their peers and gives creative, practical suggestions for adaptations that can promote maximum participation. It is just what instructors are looking for--ideas about what to do and how to do it!''
--Nancy B. Levack, Curriculum Coordinator, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
''This unique and valuable collection of games and activities, developed by innovative practitioners, fills a long-standing need for a book about teaching students with sensory impairments accompanied by multiple disabilities. I recommend this book highly for use in both inclusive and segregated settings.''
--Diane H. Craft, PhD, Professor, Department of Physical Education, SUNY Cortland College, NY
''An excellent reference for beginning and experienced teachers, this is one of the few resources that focuses specifically on teaching physical education to deaf-blind and multihandicapped students. The ideas for modifying and adapting activities are presented in a clear, straightforward manner. The suggestions enable the teacher to incorporate a wide range of skill levels while maintaining the integrity of the game.''
--Chuck White, EdD, Director of Athletics and Physical Education, South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind
