Summary

This highly accessible, manageable program appeals to instructors (including TAs) and students because it develops cultural competence and the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish given a wide variety of real-life situations. All components are fully integrated yet flexible enough to accommodate a range of scheduling factors, contact hours, course objectives, and ability levels.

  • To make ¡Hola amigos! easier for instructors to cover in two semesters, the text has been reorganized into fourteen lessons (with no preliminary lesson). The authors have also added more practice of possessive adjectives and moved coverage of demonstrative adjectives and pronouns to appear earlier in the text.
  • To appeal to a range of students, themes and contexts have been updated throughout the text. New themes appear in Lesson 3, Los quehaceres de la casa, and Lesson 14, Actividades al aire libre. Likewise, Lesson 6 features expanded practice of computer-related vocabulary, and Lesson 10 now includes additional contextualized practice of medical situations.
  • Situaciones activities have been expanded in the Sixth Edition to provide more interactive, communicative practice for students. This section provides opportunities for pair and small groups to use new structures and vocabulary in brief conversations.
  • Marginal annotations in the Instructor's Annotated Edition have been expanded and now include titles such as Suggestion, Expansion, or Reference to Ancillaries to help instructors easily identify the purpose of each annotation. In addition, the Sixth Edition has a new pair/group work icon and a new cultural interaction icon, helping to streamline the process of integrating collaborative activities into class.
