This edition has also been released as:
ISBN13: 978-0072467000
ISBN10: 0072467002

Summary: Integrated Science is a straight forward, easy-to-read, but substantial introduction to the fundamental behavior of matter and energy in living and nonliving systems. It is intended to serve the needs of non-science majors who are required to complete one or more science courses as part of a general or basic studies requirement. It introduces basic concepts and key ideas while providing opportunities for students to learn reasoning skills and a new way of thinking ab
out their environment. No prior work in science is assumed. The language, as well as the mathematics, is as simple as can be practical for a college-level science course.

New to This Edition :
  • Major revision of this text. Text has been heavily revised and streamlined. 200 pages have been removed to offer a more concise approach to integrated science. NEW design is more open, less text intense presentation for the nonscience major.
  • New boxed features called "Concepts Applied". Concepts Applied describe the application of the concept to everyday life for the student.
  • An outline and introduction of concepts at the beginning of each chapter. Chapter Outlines include all the major topic headings and subheadings within the body of the chapter. The Introductory Overview previews the chapter's contents and what the student can expect to learn from that chapter.
  • This helps students stay focused and organized while reading the chapter for the first time. Whether they read the text before lecture or more than likely, after lecture, they can keep lecture notes straight with the text.

Features :
  • Even coverage of chemistry, physics, earth science, biology, and astronomy. Instead of being info heavy in particular areas, Tillery offers a balanced approach to all disciplines.
  • A Closer Look and Connection boxes contain information on topics of special interest to the general population as well as the science community. This is supplemental reading material. The information contained in them goes "beyond" the boundaries of the required text material. The boxes underscore the relevance of integrated science in our daily lives allowing students to explore applications outside of the classroom.
  • Summary of Equations: reinforce the retention of equations in the text. This is a great way for students to study all important equations and to be able to focus their time on how they are to be used and working problems with them.
  • Parallel Exercise Sets. Two parallel sets of problems, one with completed worked solutions in the appendix, the other set of problems does not have the answer available. This let's the students know if they are doing the problems correctly and can then go on to the other set of problems which can be used for homework assignments if desired.
  • Applying the Concepts Quiz. This is a multiple choice quiz that challenges student's comprehension of the text material. Students can then further evaluate their study plan based upon results of the quiz.
  • Questions for Thought: Designed to challenge the student to demonstrate comprehension of the topics.
