Beatty, J. Kelly (Ed.) :

J. Kelly Beatty is the senior editor of Sky & Telescope magazine in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where for more than 20 years he has reported on developments in planetary science. While earning a B.S. in geology at the California Institute of Technology, Beatty worked on images from the Mariner 9 and 10 interplanetary missions. He also holds an M.S. in science journalism. His versatility as a writer has won a large following within scientific circles as well as the general public, and on the strength of that reputation he was among the first Western journalists to gain firsthand access to the Soviet space program. Beatty also contributes to a wide range of other magazines, newspapers, and encyclopedias.

Petersen, Carolyn Collins (Ed.) :

Carolyn Collins Petersen is an award-winning science writer whose articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines since 1980. She holds degrees in education and journalism from the University of Colorado. For eight years she was a member of the Hubble Space Telescope's Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph team, during which time she coordinated observations for the Ulysses Comet Watch Network. Petersen and co-author John C. Brandt wrote Hubble Vision, now in its second edition. She has also written planetarium programs seen in hundreds of facilities around the world. Petersen is editor of Sky Publishing Corporation's books and products division as well as editor of SkyWatch, the company's annual guide to astronomy and space exploration.

Chaikin, Andrew (Ed.) :

Andrew Chaikin is a Boston-based science writer with lifelong interest in planetary science. He holds a bachelor's degree in geology from Brown University, and he has served as a research geologist at the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Earth and Planetary Studies in Washington, D.C. Chaikin wrote A Man on the Moon, the widely acclaimed chronicle of the Apollo lunar astronauts and their experiences, and more recently Air & Space. He served as a technical consultant for the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon. Formerly on the editorial staff of Sky & Telescope, Chaikin now writes frequently for Air & Space/Smithsonian, Discover, and other publications.

Davis, Don (Ed.) :

Don Davis is widely recognized as one of the finest astronomical artists in the world. His meticulous attention to detail and accuracy has won admiration from artists and scientists alike. In recent years he has both mastered and advanced a host of innovative computerized illustration techniques. Davis won an Emmy award for his groundbreaking work in the classic PBS series Cosmos, and his many collaborations with the late Carl Sagan included the dramatic opening sequence for the film Contact. Davis's stunningly realistic portrayals can be appreciated in such publications as Time-Life Books, Parade, Smithsonian, and Natural History.
