New York. 1935 Hard cover 1934 copyright. Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. Prior owner name penciled inside, 1936. Spine has minor sun-fade, dulling to red-leaves graphic. Off-wh moreite textured pages. Half-inch light stroke, front, a few tiny back cover light dots; light... Brown cloth over boards w/ paste-on title boxes, front and spine, cream w/ black titles, red-leaves graphic (repeated on title page). 231 p.; 20 cm. Winner of Pulitzer, this fictional narrative tale is told by a 14-year-old middle sister, living in poverty and isolation. Beautifully designed and constructed with quality materials, it is a lovely book to hold and read, with lines well-spaced. Contents are in 3 parts: Prelude and Spring; The Long Drouth; Year's End. The setting is rural, and the family farms on stony soil among the hills. The narrator's father had been displaced from city factory work during the Great Depression, and had returned to the farm on which he lived into his teens. Transitions did not come easily less
