Young, Michael J. :
Michael J. Young has written more than 20 computer books on topics ranging from Microsoft Office to Microsoft Visual C++® and Microsoft Visual Basic®. A graduate of Stanford University, he has also served on the ANSI committee on standardization of the C language.
"I found Young's 1st edition of the "XML Step By Step" book, perfect for students who attended the "Intro to XML" class I taught at Skyline community college. I'll be teaching it again, this time using his 2nd Edition book. Believe me, I scoured the Internet and bookstores looking for the perfect Intro book and Young's book is by far the best. After being in I.T. for 15 years I should I hope I know what I'm talking about. After teaching the Intro class, I realized then, there was a rhyme and reason as to why Young chose not to go indepth into XML Schemas and XSL. You have to have something left over for the Advanced class! ;-) Great work Steve! Keep it up."

"Excellent book and appreciated piece of work.,
XML Step by Step from Michael J. Young is an excellent piece of transformation of cutting-edge technology into a book form so that the developers can take full advantage from the modern tool. I have spent quite some time on this interesting book and I must say that each new chapter appeals to me in a new and exciting way. I would be delighted to get ahold of this book once again."

"Solid introducion, but advanced info is MS-skewed.,
Young's Step by Step XML is a solid, gentle introduction to the world of XML. He explains the basics and reasoning behind the technology well and then slowly treads through, slowly increasing the complexity. Everything is explained quite thoroughly, and he adheres to standards very well. My only beef with the book is the sections on DSO and DOM are rather large. Although they are simple and easy to use, if you intend to develop and publish to the Internet, it's useless because only MSIE supports them. I would've appreciated a meatier section on XSL, as it's a more useful technology for that type of application. The CSS section was also lengthy. It serves as a solid CSS1 reference, but considering for anything reasonably complex (entities, attributes, etc) you'd want to use XSL, the section has its limits. For someone who wants a basic introduction, or who is simply too lazy to dive into a conventional book, Step by Step XML is a great way to learn what XML is all about and to see some, albeit basic, real world applications."
